Thesis: The making of local development - How "regional revitalization" is made? : 

研究内容　

　まちづくりという社会現象について広く関心を持っています。　

　現在の研究は、「まちづくり」や「地方創生」が、作れていくプロセスについてです。

　特に衰退する地域の社会や産業の持続性を高めようと始まった地域のまちづくり活動が、その後成果を上げて著名になり、「まちづくりが盛んな地域」と評されるようになった町を研究対象としています。

　そうした地域に暮らす住民や移住者、また地域内外の主体や制度によって、「まちづくり」が如何に作られていくのか。そして、彼らがその「まちづくり」を自らの生活を通して如何に体験し、如何にそれと向き合いながら暮らしているのか、文化人類学などの視点から研究しています。

　また、そうした事例分析を集積することで、「まちづくり」を如何に記述・描写できるか、についても検討しています。 

　具体的には、

・地方移住者が多く集まる島根県海士町のまちづくり、

・住民参加型まちづくりで知られるアメリカ・オレゴン州ポートランド

などのまちづくりを対象としています。

　その他、東京・下北沢や金沢市、アメリカ　サンフランシスコ・シアトル・ニューヨークなど、まちづくりの活発な地域に関心を持っています。

Research Summary
I'm broadly interested in the "community / local development (regional revitalization in Japanese)".

My research is about the process of making "local development" or "regional revitalization".

Especially I focus on towns that have famous for the success of their community development activities, which began as a way to improve the sustainability of society and industry in declining area (and have come to be known as "areas where community development is success").

From social anthropology, I'm researching how the local development is made by local residents, migrants from other towns, and other actors and systems.

And then, how local residents, migrants from other towns, and people involved in local industries and culture experience and deal with "community development" in their own lives.

I'm also studying how "community development" can be described in social anthropology by accumlating such case analyses.
